Toledo police are hoping someone can help them find the driver who fled from a crash that injured two people and killed a third in the city's south end on April 21.

James Steele, 57, of Gordon Street, who was driving one of the vehicles involved in the crash, was pronounced dead about 4½ hours later at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center.

Two family members, who were his passengers, also were injured, according to police.

The crash occurred about 4:55 p.m. April 21 at Western Avenue and Marion Street, police said.

Witnesses told police a man in a tan 1999 Chevy Tahoe was driving west on Western, when the SUV sideswiped a car that was stopped preparing to turn from eastbound Western onto Marion.

The SUV then struck Mr. Steele's Chevy Blazer head-on, police said.

The driver of the Chevy Tahoe then fled on foot, police said.

He was described as being Hispanic, about 5 feet, 8 inches tall, with brown hair.
