FOSTORIA -- A building fire early today forced the closure of a restaurant and evacuation of apartments in Fostoria.

The Fostoria Fire Division responded to the 116 ½ West North Street fire at 2:37 a.m. today. The two-story brick building houses four apartments upstairs and the Flippin Jimmy’s restaurant on the first floor.

Flames were visible in the second floor when firefighters arrived, but residents who had been home at the time of the fire had already left the building.

The fire division said the fire started on the second floor, and officials have not ruled out electrical problems as a possible cause.

A damage estimate was not available, but the apartments cannot be occupied and the restaurant is closed for cleaning. The American Red Cross provided assistance to residents.

The fire division said the apartment where the fire originated did not have a working smoke detector.

No injuries were reported. Tiffin Fire/Rescue Division also responded to the scene.
