Huron woman killed in crash

SANDUSKY — A Huron, Ohio, woman was pronounced dead at the scene of a one-car crash that occurred shortly before noon Saturday in Erie County’s Vermilion Township, according to troopers at the Ohio Highway Patrol post in Sandusky.

Ellen J. Gaskalla, 66, was driving south on Frailey Road near Darrow Road at 11:49 a.m. when her vehicle went off the right side of the road, struck a mailbox, continued through a ditch, and struck another mailbox, the patrol said.

As she attempted to drive back on the road, the vehicle flipped. 

It then went off the left side of the road and struck a ditch, the impact of which cause Ms. Gaskalla to be ejected from the vehicle. Ms. Gaskalla was not wearing a seat belt, troopers said.
