An inmate who was assaulted Sunday at Toledo Correctional Institution died of cranial-cerebral injuries, Dr. Diane Barnett, a Lucas County deputy coroner, said.

The death of James Ray Oglesby, 32, was ruled a homicide. His injuries were caused by metal baseball bats wielded by at least two other inmates, Dr. Barnett said.

The incident is being investigated by the Ohio Highway Patrol.

Oglesby, who was convicted in Lorain County on kidnapping and murder charges, died Wednesday in Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center.

He was assaulted Sunday afternoon in the facility's recreation yard, Darlene Mitchell, a Toledo Correctional spokesman, said.

It was the third homicide at the facility in less than a year.
