A stubborn fire forced a mother and her three children out of their South Toledo home early today. Battalion Fire Chief Jerry Takats said the fire appeared to have started in the basement in the vicinity of the water heater.

Chief Takats estimated damage to the 126-year-old home at $15,000, adding that the residents planned to live with relatives in a home next door to the fire-damaged home.

He said he was unable to provide names of the home's residents. Firefighters were dispatched at 2:29 a.m., but it wasn't until 4:30 that the blaze was brought under control, the chief said.
