STONY RIDGE -- At least one man is hospitalized in critical condition and another was discharged from Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center after a Troy Township home exploded early today.

Officials have not released the victims' names. One victim was transported to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The other victim, a female, was found dead in the rubble today after a search by authorities.

A third person was hospitalized after the fire.

Troy Township fire Chief Randy Woodruff said the second body found this morning is believed to be that of Jahn Richards, who owned the Stony Ridge Road home with her husband James Richards.

An official cause of the blast has not been determined, but Chief Woodruff said “it appears that it had something to do with liquid propane.”

“With the destruction from the explosion, I don't know if they'll ever be able to make a determination,” the chief said about the cause of the blast.

The chief did not know when names of the victims would be confirmed; the Wood County Sheriff's Office was working on notifying family, the chief said.

Bob Lahey, 40, a self-employed contractor, said he heard a loud boom today and initially thought a plane had crashed near his home.

He and his wife rushed to the nearby scene and realized it was a home that had been destroyed.near the back of the home and he helped carry that person from the debris. Mr. Lahey has lived in his home for 13 years and said the family in the destroyed home had been in their home much longer.
