VAN WERT, Ohio -- A truck driver from Indiana was seriously injured Friday night along U.S. 30 when he stopped to inspect a tire on his vehicle and was hit by a pickup truck, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Mark Campbell, 30, of Fort Wayne, was flown to St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima, Ohio, with serious injuries, according to the patrol's Van Wert post. A hospital spokesman said she had no information about a person by that name.

Mr. Campbell had pulled onto the highway's westbound shoulder after a tire blew out on the truck tractor he was driving. He was making repairs when he was struck about 9:40 p.m. by a pickup driven by James Yoder, 18, of Dalton, Ohio, who also was headed west, troopers said.

Mr. Yoder and his three passengers were not injured. The crash remained under investigation Saturday with no charges filed. Van Wert is about 95 miles southwest of Toledo.
