SANDUSKY — Three people were injured Sunday evening in a two-vehicle accident in Perkins Township near Sandusky, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Troopers said a pickup truck driven by Zachary McClellan, 18, of Maumee ran a red light at the intersection of State Rt. 2 and State Rt. 4 and collided with a car driven by Kelly Rigoni, 38, of Port Clinton.

Mr. McClellan was driving south on Route 4 and Ms. Volpitta was exiting Route 2 onto Route 4 when the accident occurred at 6:20 p.m.

Mr. McClellan and his passenger, Kasey Volpitta, 17, of Whitehouse, were taken to Firelands Regional Medical Center for minor injuries.

Ms. Rigoni was flown to Cleveland's MetroHealth hospital after initial treatment at Firelands.

Troopers said Mr. McClellan told them he was momentarily distracted by an object that fell into his pickup truck when he ran the red light.
