SHERWOOD, Ohio -- Three people were injured, at least one of them seriously, when a car and a pickup collided at an intersection in Defiance County's Washington Township near this community today, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Darius Peterson, 22, of Defiance, Ohio, the driver of the car, and Earl Polter, 68, of Sherwood, the driver of the pickup, were taken to Community Hospital Of Williams County - Bryan Hospital, where their conditions were unavailable.

Darrin Polter, a passenger in the pickup, was flown to Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, according to the patrol's Defiance post. The victim's age and address were unavailable. A hospital spokesman said she had no information about a person by that name.

The Peterson car was eastbound on State Rt. 249 at U.S. 127 about 10:50 a.m. when he failed to yield at a stop sign to the Polter pickup, which was southbound on the federal highway, troopers said.

Both occupants of the Polter vehicle used seat belts while Mr. Peterson did not, according to the patrol.

The crash remains under investigation.

Sherwood is about 60 miles southwest of Toledo.
