Toledoan allegedly hit man during car chase

A Toledo man has been charged with felonious assault after authorities say he struck and injured a road construction worker with a car Monday while fleeing police in the central city.

Robert Sinkey, 25, of 1001 Mott Ave. was also charged with theft, resisting arrest, obstructing official business, and criminal damaging and endangering, according to the Lucas County Sheriff's Office. He was booked into the county jail pending arraignment today in Toledo Municipal Court.

Jarred James, 20, of Toledo was treated at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center and then released, a hospital spokesman said, after he was struck during the pursuit by a vehicle near Collingwood Boulevard and Floyd Street at 9:25 a.m.

Toledo police were assisting Northwood and Owens police in a chase that started in Northwood a short time before, Toledo police spokesman Sgt. Joe Heffernan said. Mr. Sinkey was wanted on warrants for a parole violation and a misdemeanor, the sheriff's office reported.

After striking the construction worker, the driver abandoned the first vehicle and stole a pickup. Police vehicles boxed him in on the Martin Luther King, Jr., Bridge, where he was taken into custody, police said.
