Two small children were injured today in a house fire on Geneva Avenue in South Toledo.

According to residents of the home at 538 Geneva St., six adults and three children were asleep in the home shortly before 11 a.m. when a fire broke out in a first floor bedroom. Two of the women in the home - both named Stephanie Sneed - said the fire was not large and they almost had it out when firefighters arrived.

Two of the children -- a four-year-old girl and a 10-month-old girl -- were burned and have been taken to a local hospital. Their parents are Matt and Shanice Hester.

One of the women named Stephanie Sneed, who said she was the children's aunt, said they did not appear to be seriously injured. She said the damage was mostly to "the back room" where the children were at the time.

Firefighters are investigating the cause of the fire in the home near South Avenue. The fire was first reported at 10:58 a.m. today.
