A North Toledo school was on temporary lockdown today after a shooting victim went to the school seeking help.

The shooting happened near Riverside Elementary where parent-teacher conferences were being held at the time, according to Toledo Public Schools district spokesman Patty Mazur.

The victim sought help from a teacher in the parking lot. The employee called 911 and then reported it inside the building.

The shooting was reported to police at about 6 p.m. The victim was taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center for treatment.

Police on scene said the male victim told them he was on foot at the time. He said he stopped a car to ask for directions and that the person he asked for help from then shot him.
