TIFFIN — A Tiffin man and a Fostoria man have been charged in a standoff that closed South Sandusky and Market streets for several hours, Tiffin authorities said.

Seth McMeen, 24, of Tiffin and Tyler Earl, 23, of Fostoria were charged with inducing panic and discharging a weapon in city limits, Tiffin police said.

Mr. McMeen was arraigned on the charges Friday at Tiffin Municipal Court and was ordered held in the Seneca County jail in lieu of $15,000 bond; he posted the bond and was released. Mr. Earl was issued a summons for arraignment next Friday, police said.

Police arrived at an apartment building at South Sandusky and Market about 1:50 a.m. Thursday after neighbors reported hearing two to four shots.

Police sealed off the area of the apartment building, evacuated several residents from surrounding houses, and called in negotiators. Between 3 and 4:30 a.m., police used a loudspeaker to talk to the people in the apartment, and shortly after, the apartment was “cleared” and the three people were taken into custody, police said.

Police said Friday they had interviewed a woman and another man, but they did not charge them.

The motive was not released. The incident remained under investigation.
