A string of break-ins to Toledo dollar stores, two occurring within an hour of one another, has police on high alert.

In three of the five incidents — all reported since Oct. 17 — in which someone was able to get into a store by breaking glass windows or doors, the burglar or burglars made off with cigarettes, according to various Toledo police reports. In another break in, the bandit did not get any property, and the fifth attempt failed.

Sunday night, two of the break-ins were reported, each at Dollar General stores.

The first was reported at 10:59 p.m. at 2857 Airport Hwy. There someone tried to break a window, but a cooler prevented anyone from getting inside. The second was at 11:30 p.m. at 5720 Secor Rd., where a front window was smashed and cigarettes were stolen. The Secor store has been broken into twice, police said.

Other break-ins have been reported at Family Dollar, 1135 W. Sylvania Ave., and Family Dollar, 1121 W. Bancroft St.

Police ask that anyone with information call the Crime Stoppers program at 419-255-1111. Callers may remain anonymous and could be eligible for a cash reward.
