Custar man charged in shooting outside home

CUSTAR, Ohio — A local man has been charged with attempted murder in a shooting Wednesday outside his home, the Wood County Sheriff's Office said.

Thomas J. Boyer, 53, of 22743 Defiance Pike is accused of shooting William Henry Morris, of Rutland, Ohio, in the back with a shotgun. Mr. Morris was flown to the University of Toledo Medical Center, formerly Medical College of Ohio Hospital, where he was in serious condition, deputies said.

Though it wasn’t involved, the St. Louis Catholic School across the street from the scene was placed in precautionary lockdown after the 1 p.m. shooting, which remains under investigation.
