PORT CLINTON -- An unidentified person died in a single-car crash on State Rt. 163 east of Englebeck Road late Saturday night that ended with the driver engulfed in flames.

The driver was trapped inside the vehicle, which struck a boulder after veering off the right side of the road about 11:47 p.m., the Ohio Highway Patrol post in Sandusky said.

The impact caused the car to flip. It then struck a utility pole, a tree, and overturned again before coming to a rest in a parking lot.

At some point during the crash, it burst into flames. The driver could not get out, the highway patrol said.

The Ottawa County Coroner's Office is attempting to identify the victim today, the highway patrol said.
