MONROE -- A tow truck driver was injured in a hit-and-run incident late Sunday while assisting a motorist on I-75 in Monroe County's LaSalle Township.

Steven Johnson, from Star Towing, was taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center with injuries that appeared serious, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office. A hospital spokesman said his condition was unavailable. The victim's age and address were not released.

Mr. Johnson was standing beside the stranded car on the northbound side of the interstate about 10:30 p.m. when a passing tractor-trailer rig struck the side of the tow truck, damaging the side view mirror and striking him, sheriff deputies said. The semi did not stop, they said.

The incident occurred about a mile south of Monroe, which is about 25 miles north of Toledo.

The case remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff's office at 734-240-7560.
