LIMA, Ohio — An anti-crime program already in three Ohio cities is coming to Lima, officials announced Tuesday.

Participants of the Safe Neighborhoods Initiative, spearheaded by Attorney General Mike DeWine, identify and meet with a community’s “most violent offenders” and tell them about the consequences of their actions. The initiative, already in place in Akron, Warren, and Steubenville, is similar to the Toledo Community Initiative to Reduce Violence, known locally as TCIRV.

In TCIRV, police and community members meet with known gang members and tell them to “stop the violence,” then outline the consequences and potential in-depth police investigations. They are directed to service programs such as rehabilitation, education, and job training.
