An attempted traffic stop late Monday night led police on a brief foot chase before they arrested a man suspected in a shooting.

Trentant Dotson, 21, of 1739 W. Sylvania Ave. is charged with obstructing official business, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest, carrying concealed weapons, and two counts each of trafficking in drugs and possession of drugs, plus the outstanding felonious assault charge.

He was arraigned Tuesday in Toledo Municipal Court and ordered held in the Lucas County jail in lieu of $125,000 bond.

Mr. Dotson is accused of shooting Kevion Jones, 16, three times Nov. 29 at Page Street and Mayville Place.

Police said they tried to stop a vehicle for driving around the railroad-crossing gates on West Sylvania near Seiss Avenue, but the vehicle turned onto Clara from Bennett on Monday night.

The driver continued to flee from police before losing control of the vehicle at Clara and Vermaas avenues and fleeing the car, at which time he reportedly tossed a loaded .40-caliber handgun into a yard in the 4100 block of Vermaas.

Officers eventually pulled Dotson from under the back porch of 4138 Lewis Ave. During a pat-down, police reported finding numerous prescription pills, crack cocaine, and a digital scale.
