Michigan man in critical condition after I-75 collision with tow truck, disabled car
2/8/2014MONROE – A Michigan man who crashed the tractor trailer he was driving Friday night is listed in critical condition at the University of Toledo Medical Center.
Daniel Lemley, 52, of New Boston, was taken to the the hospital, the former Medical College of Ohio, by helicopter after the 11 p.m. crash on southbound I-75, south of Summit Street in Erie Township.
Deputies from the Monroe County Sheriff's Office reported that Mr. Lemley was driving southbound, hauling tandem box trailers, and collided with a tow truck and a disabled car, which were both parked on the right shoulder.
After striking both vehicles, Mr. Lemley reportedly lost control of the semi going off the west side of the road; the truck rotated clockwise and overturned in the snow, landing on its left side, deputies said.
Neither the driver of the Star Towing truck, Robert Bayer, 54, of Monroe; nor the driver of the disabled car, Valeria Berry, 50, of Detroit, were injured.
Fifteen-year-old Christal Berry was also in the car with Ms. Berry – the teen was not injured.
Deputies said Mr. Lemley was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Alcohol does not appear to be a factor, deputies said.
