PETERSBURG, Mich. -- A Temperance man was killed and a Petersburg woman was injured in a two-vehicle collision Thursday at Summerfield and Ida Center roads in Summerfield Township, troopers at the Monroe post of the Michigan State Police said.

Pronounced dead at the scene was Larry Oberski, 61. Troopers said he was westbound on Ida Center Road about 2:15 p.m. when he did not stop at the stop sign for Summerfield Road. His vehicle struck a northbound vehicle driven by Gloria O'Neil, 62, of Petersburg. The collision forced both vehicles off the roadway into a ditch, troopers said.

Mrs. O'Neill had the right of way, troopers said. She was taken by medical helicopter to University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. She was in the trauma burn unit Friday night, but her condition was not available.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

The state police traffic crash reconstruction unit was called to the scene. The crash is under investigation.
