Burglary suspect arrested in Monroe following report of someone with an axe near local market

MONROE -- The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man suspected in a burglary at the Jefferson High School administration building.

The sheriff’s office arrested the suspect today after receiving a report of someone with an axe in front of Kenny’s Market on North Dixie Highway in Monroe.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they couldn’t find the suspect, but while there an alarm sounded from the nearby high school administration building, less than a mile away.

Deputies found a broken window at the administration building, and found the suspect while checking the nearby area and following boot prints left in the snow.

Among the items deputies recovered was an axe.

Authorities would not identify the suspect, who is currently serving parole for a breaking and entering offence, pending an arraignment.

The suspect was taken to Monroe County Jail.
