A Toledo teenager died Sunday evening when her car spun out of control on Richards Road in West Toledo, striking a tree and throwing her from her 1998 Saturn, police said.

The victim, Theresa Brazzel, 18, was pronounced dead at 6:32 p.m. at the University of Toledo Medical Center, the former Medical College of Ohio.

Police said Ms. Brazzel was northbound on Richards at a high rate of speed shortly before 5 p.m. when she drove off the right side of the road and struck a tree. The impact spun her car around at least twice.

Ms. Brazzel, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the car and landed in the intersection with Amsterdam Road.

Her car came to a rest against a utility pole. The crash occurred five blocks south of Dorr Street.

Police said Ms. Brazzel sustained multiple injuries.
