Semi-truck driver dies in single-vehicle crash

Incident occurred on U.S. 6 in Sandusky County’s Riley Township

FREMONT -- A semi-truck driver died in a single-vehicle crash today on U.S. 6 in Sandusky County’s Riley Township.

John Laven, 38, of Bedford, Ind., was killed when the truck he was driving drove off the road’s right side and hit an embankment near mile post 22, close to the Ohio Turnpike.

The trailer was carrying lumber, and the collision caused the load to shift and the cab to dislodge from the frame, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The incident took place around 12:30 p.m.

Mr. Laven was wearing a seatbelt. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash is under investigation.
