FREMONT — A semitruck driver died in a single-vehicle crash Wednesday on U.S. 6 in Sandusky County’s Riley Township.

John Laven, 38, of Bedford, Ind., was killed when the truck he was driving went off the road’s right side and hit an embankment near mile post 22, close to the Ohio Turnpike.

The trailer was carrying lumber, and the collision caused the load to shift and the cab to dislodge from the frame, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol.

The incident took place around 12:30 p.m.

Mr. Laven was wearing a seat belt. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash is under investigation.
