COLUMBUS — Daniel Desmond, a Toledo firefighter and paramedic since 1989, was recently appointed to a vacancy on the Ohio Police and Fire Pension Fund Board of Trustees.

He holds one of two seats reserved for active firefighters. He was appointed to replace Lawrence G. Petrick, Jr., who resigned. Mr. Desmond could ask fellow firefighters to elect him to his own four-year term on the board in 2015.

Vice president of Toledo Firefighters Local 92, Mr. Desmond previously served with the Sylvania Township Fire Department. He has been awarded the Life Saving Achievement Award.

In addition to two active firefighters, the board consists of two active police officers, a retired firefighter, and a retired police officer.

The remaining three trustees are appointed by the governor, state treasurer, and the General Assembly.
