Toledo police confiscated seven handguns and one shotgun from a gang-affiliated Joffre Avenue home on Thursday afternoon. when the department's vice-narcotics unit executed search warrant there, Sgt. Joe Heffernan said.

The weapons were taken from 1908 Joffre on Thursday when the department's vice-narcotics unit executed a search warrant there, Sgt. Joe Heffernan said.

“It makes things a little safer out there for citizens and us,” Sergeant Heffernan said. “Those are very dangerous weapons.”

Two of the handguns were 50-caliber Desert Eagle guns, which Sergeant Heffernan said are “very expensive, very dangerous handguns” with a price tag of about $1,500 each. Two other handguns had laser sights.

Sergeant Heffernan said investigators would try to determine whether any of the weapons were reported stolen.

The search warrant was issued after the department received complaints about drug and gang activity there, Sergeant Heffernan said. He declined to specify which gang the home is affiliated with.

One person was arrested for trafficking in drugs.
