Pedestrian struck by train in Ottawa County

OAK HARBOR -- Ottawa County sheriff's deputies are investigating the death today of a person who was struck by a Norfolk Southern train in Salem Township.

The sheriff's office received a call about 6:15 a.m. that the train had hit a person on the tracks near the railroad bridge over the Portage River. Initial reports were that the person was dead at the scene.

Railroad police also responded.

Authorities have not released the person's name or other information.

The stopped train blocked crossings in Oak Harbor for several hours.
