It could be months before the contents of an apparent “pipe bomb” that was found along I-75 last month are known.

The white PVC pipe, which was capped on both ends and had black electrical tape on it, was found April 21 by a state transportation crew, prompting shutdown of I-75 and I-280 in both directions. Police sent the item to the Bureau of Criminal Investigations for analysis.

Police believe the item may have been taped to and then fell off a car being driven on I-75, said Sgt. Joe Heffernan.
