The Toledo Police Department is accepting applications from parents wishing to enroll their children this summer in Safe-T-City classes, which are designed to teach safety skills through songs, poem, art, and movies to children entering kindergarten.

The department is offering morning and afternoon sessions on June 11 to 20. June 23 to July 2, July 7 to 16, and July 24 to 30. The morning classes are 8:15 a.m to 10:45 a.m. and the afternoon classes are 12 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The program includes classroom instruction and outdoor practice in a miniature replica of a city set up next to the Scott Park district police station, which has streets, sidewalks, small buildings, traffic lights, and stop signs. Local teachers, police officers, and guest speakers will discuss topics such as pedestrian, bicycle, bus, fire, and water safety as well as stranger danger.

Applications are available online at www.toledopolice.com, as well at the Safety Building, 525 N. Erie St., or Scott Park District Station, 2301 Nebraska Ave., and Northwest District Station, 2330 W. Sylvania Ave.

The 20-hour course is free.
