Northwood man killed after suffering apparent medical episode, crashing car into tree

A Northwood man died today after suffering an apparent medical episode and crashing his car into a tree.

Richard L. Thomas, 55, had just left his home in the 1900 block of Bordeaux Rue and was going to Meijer when he became unwell and crashed his southbound car into a light pole and then into a tree, said Northwood police Sgt. Doug Hubaker. The crash, which was reported at 10:46 a.m., happened in the 1900 block of Bordeaux Rue.

Northwood paramedics attempted to revive Mr. Thomas, but attempts were unsuccessful. The victim was pronounced dead at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center.
