Woman stabbed 13 times during fatal home attack

Adam Akers told investigators he left the Royal Village mobile home where he’d recently moved, went for a walk, and came home to find Judith Uyttenhove stabbed to death.

Ms. Uyttenhove, 72, of Springfield Township was stabbed 13 times with a kitchen knife, said Dr. Diane Scala-Barnett, Lucas County deputy coroner, who performed an autopsy on the victim Thursday.

Most of the stab wounds were concentrated in the chest area. The victim had one defensive wound: A cut on an arm like she tried to block the attack, Dr. Scala-Barnett said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mr. Akers, 41, whose father was Ms. Uyttenhove’s housemate in the mobile home, was arrested Thursday and booked into the Lucas County jail on one count of murder.

By video, he was arraigned Friday in Sylvania Municipal Court and ordered to remain in the jail in lieu of $1 million bond. He’s scheduled to appear Monday in court, by video, with a court-appointed attorney.

Mr. Akers called 911 at about 8:45 p.m. Wednesday to report the attack at the mobile home in the 7500 block of Dorr Street.

Investigators with the Lucas County Sheriff’s Office said they collected evidence at the scene that they believe links Mr. Akers to the crime. They also believe the suspect acted alone.
