A vehicle that Ottawa Hills police tried to stop Saturday for driving without license plates led officers on a chase that ended when the car hit a utility pole and brick subdivision marker.

The driver was in critical condition in Toledo Hospital, Ottawa Hills Chief John Wenzlick said. His name was not released.

Police noticed the car weaving in and out of its eastbound lane about 5:30 p.m. in the 5100 block of Central Avenue. The vehicle vehicle turned north on Corey Road, which becomes Whiteford Road, and crashed near Lerado Road in Sylvania Township.

Charges, including felony fleeing and eluding officers, are pending, Chief Wenzlick. Alcohol was believed to be a factor in the crash, he said.
