2 killed, 1 injured in Fostoria house fire

FOSTORIA — Two people were killed and one person was injured in a house fire early today in this Northwest Ohio community, authorities said.

Two of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene, Capt. James Walters, of Fostoria Fire Department, said.

The third victim was flown to ProMedica Toledo Hospital with burns, Captain Walters said.

One of the deceased was identified by Shane Marker, 40, as his brother Danny Marker, 48, a resident of the area who was deaf and partially blind.

The name of the other person who perished in the blaze and the medical condition of the surviving victim have not been released. Both are females and deaf, Mr. Marker's brother told a Blade staff writer.

Fostoria police said in a news release it was not releasing names until families were notified and the county coroner's office had confirmed identities.

The fire department crews were dispatched after the fire at 614 S. Poplar St. was reported at 3:05 a.m. Firefighters brought the blaze under control sometime by 8:30 a.m., according to the fire captain.

The fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshals Office, which released no further information. Numerous interviews "are being conducted with individuals of interest," according to the release issued by Fostoria police and attributed to Police Chief Keith N. Loreno.

Fostoria, in Hancock, Seneca, Wood counties, is about 35 miles southeast of Toledo.
