The Toledo Fire Department has received 30 pet oxygen masks that will enable firefighters across the city to “help save family pets.”

The masks, valued at $1,500, were donated by the K9 Defender Fund, said fire Lt. Matthew Hertzfeld. The department already had 17 pet oxygen masks from a donation in 2007, but only at select stations around the city.

Today‘s donation will put masks in each station, the lieutenant said. The new masks will go into service next week after firefighters are trained on how to use them.
