The man who allegedly tried to burn down the West Toledo Masonic Complex also set his hand on fire at the time.

On Wednesday, Toledo police released surveillance video of the Monday arson at 5025 Secor Rd. At 4:56 a.m., it shows a man arriving in a vehicle, getting out, and walking toward the building.

A bright burst of light, presumably the fire, appears just off frame, and then the man backs away only to run back toward the fire. When he backs away a second time, one of his hands is on fire.

The man then gets back into his car and drives off.

According to a Toledo police report, when firefighters showed up, they determined that a patio brick with a burning rag was thrown through a window on the north side of the building. Officials found the rag on the lawn.

The fire did about $300 damage, fire officials said.

Someone also tried to burn the building on May 14, officials said.

An investigation is continuing.
