Search continues for escaped Lenawee Co. inmate

ADRIAN — Authorities today were continuing their search for a handcuffed, unarmed inmate who escaped Monday from a Lenawee County Courthouse.

Scott Henning, 27, of Swanton escaped about 10:15 a.m. when a holding cell door lock malfunctioned, city officials said. He fled westbound from the court and was last seen near Miles Drive.

“We are going down through tips as we get them,” Detective Gary Ward of the Lenawee County Sheriff's Office, said today.

He would not elaborate on the investigation.

The inmate is described by authorities as white, 5 feet, 11 inches tall, 180 pounds, with light brown hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing a light blue shirt and gray pants.

Officials from the sheriff‘‍s office‍ said Mr. Henning had been sentenced to spend 93 days in the Lenawee County jail for violation of probation on a reckless driving charge. He walked out a back door after the cell door on the holding cell he was in did not lock. 

Adrian, the Lenawee County seat, is about 35 miles northwest of Toledo.
