MONROE — A Newport, Mich., man was killed Friday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on Telegraph Road in Frenchtown Township, deputies said.

James Brown, Jr., 53, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.‍ His vehicle was hit by a tractor-trailer driven by Larry Farmer, 31, of Ann Arbor, at 12:39 p.m. just north of Grafton Road in front of Kenny’s Market.

Deputies said Mr. Farmer was driving north on Telegraph Road when he slowed for a slow-moving vehicle.

While braking, Mr. Farmer lost control and the tractor-trailer went left of center, crossed all lanes, and struck Mr. Brown’s southbound van. Both Mr. James and Mr. Farmer were wearing seat belts. Mr. Farmer was not injured.

Deputies said alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash, although the investigation is ongoing. Officials ask that anyone with information to call 734-240-7768.
