Man runs red light, hits on-duty police officer in cruiser

An on-duty Toledo police officer and another man both were injured in a two-vehicle crash late today.

At about 6:30 p.m., police said Officer Burna Guy was driving a marked cruiser westbound through the intersection of Woodruff and Ashland avenues when Anthony Scrutchins, 39, of 2328 Glenwood Ave., in a 2008 Honda Accord, drove through a red light and crashed into the cruiser, police said. 

Both were taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, where they were treated for moderate injuries, police said. Police cited Mr. Scrutchins for running the red light and for not wearing a seatbelt.
