Toledo police have identified and are looking for a Toledo man who allegedly tried to rob a South Toledo bank and Rite Aid.

Thomas Swert, Jr., 34, of 1111 Madison Ave., is charged with two counts of robbery. Police allege that Mr. Swert went into Fifth Third Bank, 3428 Glendale Ave., at about 4:37 p.m. and passed a note to a teller demanding cash and the exclusion of dye packs. The note also stated to not push alarms. Employees turned him away and the man fled without cash.

Minutes later a man with the same description as the bank robber went into Rite Aid, 2430 Glendale, and demanded cash. Police say the man had his hand up his shirt acting as if he had a gun. The employees told the man to get out of the store and the man fled.

Police said the suspect was identified after releasing images from the bank‘s surveillance system to the media. Family of the suspect, and a work-release officer, reportedly recognized him.

Police ask that anyone with information on Mr. Swert‘s whereabouts call Crime Stoppers at 419-255-1111.‍
