Skeletal remains found Thursday on rocks behind Toledo Edison’s Bayshore power plant have been taken to the Lucas County Coroner’s Office for further investigation.

A fisherman in a boat on Maumee Bay spotted the remains and called Oregon police about 5:55 p.m.

“We don’t have any idea at the point who it might be,” said Barry Porter, an investigator for the coroner’s office.

Oregon police Sgt. Jason Druckenmiller said officers found no clothing and no identification with the remains.

Police chief Mike Navarre said investigators will check missing-person reports from communities in Michigan and Canada. He believes it is likely the remains washed up from Lake Erie.

He said it is nearly impossible that the skeleton could belong to missing Ypsilanti man Brian Martin, 52, who went missing in Toledo on June 22. Two Toledo people have been charged in Mr. Martin’s death, but his body has not been recovered.

“Normally, when you get a skeleton like that, we’re talking at least six months” that the person’s been dead, Chief Navarre said.
