7/20/2014State troopers in six states plan to crack down on distracted driving during a “high-visibility enforcement effort” this week, the Ohio Highway Patrol announced.
The campaign against unsafe use of cell phones and other electronic devices behind the wheel is in Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania.
Fifty-six people died in Ohio last year in crashes blamed on driver distractions such as cell-phone calls, texting, and other internal or external distractions, the state patrol said.
“The patrol is serious about eliminating threats on roadways, and we’re proud of this collaborative, multistate effort,” said Col. Paul A. Pride, the patrol’s superintendent. “By cracking down on distracted driving, we are making Ohio and surrounding states safer.”
