Gunfire takes toll on Toledo weekend events

Several people were shot over the weekend and others were arraigned for their alleged roles in unrelated shooting incidents.

At an after-hours club at Ottawa Drive and Auburn Avenue in Central Toledo, Carrington Brown, whose age was unavailable, was shot in an arm about 3:30 a.m. Monday, police said. The victim told police he was at The Wash, a club, when he heard gunshots and was struck. He drove himself to ProMedica Toledo Hospital for treatment.

Outside the same club on Feb. 2, Michael Williams, Jr., was shot and killed during an exchange of gunfire.

Johnathan Hinton, whose age also was unavailable, was shot in an upper thigh on Friday at 9:54 p.m., police said. According to a police incident report, Mr. Hinton was standing next to his vehicle, in front of Watkins Carry-Out, 1501 Buckingham St., when someone started shooting. The victim was picked up by a friend and on the way to Toledo Hospital, when they were intercepted by police. The victim was then taken to the hospital by Toledo Fire Department paramedics.

In the Buckingham Street shooting, one house was struck.

Also on Friday, at 6:15 p.m., Isiah Wilson, told police he was standing in a group of people at Walnut and Moore streets in North Toledo when someone walked down an alley and fired six shots. Mr. Wilson’s foot was grazed by a bullet, and he was treated at the scene, police said.

Police do not believe any of the incidents are related. Police ask that anyone with information call Crime Stopper program at 419-255-1111.

In court on Monday were Justin Quinn, 24, and Rickey Harvey, 22, who are charged with felonious assault for unrelated shootings.

Quinn, 24, of 3805 Revere Drive was ordered to remain in the Lucas County jail in lieu of $100,000 bond for the June 22 shooting of LaJuan Pearson, 37, outside JT’s Bar and Grill, 3325 Stickney Ave. Police allege that Quinn and another man tried to rob the victim outside the bar, though a second suspect has not been identified.

Harvey, 22, of 2718 Kendale Drive was charged with felonious assault, having weapons under disability, and improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle. He was ordered held in the Lucas County jail in lieu of $175,000 bond.

Police allege that Mr. Harvey shot at a car with three people inside on May 12 at Inez Nash Park. One of the victims, Rico Dorsey, identified the suspect in a photo lineup, according to court records. No injuries were reported. Harvey’s weapons-related charges were filed Saturday when police allege he had a loaded gun in his car, which he tossed out of a window when officers tried to stop his vehicle.
