A corrections officer who works at the Lucas County jail is on paid administrative leave after he was accused of sexual assault on a former inmate.
The corrections officer has not been charged; Toledo police are handling the investigation, said Sheriff John Tharp. The allegation was brought to the sheriff‘s attention on Thursday, he said. The sheriff said the alleged assault happened off duty and was not on jail property.
“We‘re going to get to the bottom of it and do the right thing,” Sheriff Tharp said. An internal investigation at the sheriff‘s office is also underway.
“Right now we‘re still sorting through it,” Sheriff Tharp said.
