The wife of Maumee architect Huber Buehrer was killed, while Mr. Buehrer and another motorist were seriously injured Thursday evening in a two-car crash on the Anthony Wayne Trail at Monclova Road in Maumee.

Charline Buehrer, 84, of Maumee was pronounced dead at the scene, while Mr. Buehrer, 87, who was driving their car, was taken to the University of Toledo Medical Center. The driver of the other car, Tara Rison, 38, of Waterville also was taken to the former Medical College of Ohio. Information on their conditions was not available Friday night.

According to Maumee Police, Mr. Buehrer was westbound on the Trail, which also is known as U.S. 24, about 7:45 p.m. when he turned left onto Monclova Road, which also is known as Old Trail Road, and collided with Ms. Rison’s vehicle, which was heading east on U.S. 24.

The Buehrers live on Old Trail Road, and police surmised they were on their way home when the crash occurred.

Sgt. Josh Sprow said the speed limit is 55 mph at the intersection, which has a stoplight. He said an accident reconstructionist with the Ohio Highway Patrol is assisting Maumee Police with its investigation, which is continuing.

Witnesses he said “were not able to give a complete, accurate account” of what happened.

“I don’t believe anybody can say exactly what the lights were, and we have not been able to speak to the drivers,” Sergeant Sprow said.

He said Mr. Buehrer was wearing a seatbelt, although it did not appear that either Mrs. Buehrer or Ms. Rison were wearing seatbelts.

Mr. Buehrer, the long-time president of the Buehrer Group Architecture & Engineering in Maumee, is listed as secretary of the firm on the company’s Web site.
