Wrong-way driver dies in Monroe County crash

A Livonia, Mich., man who was driving a car north in the southbound lanes of I-275 in Monroe County crashed head on with a tractor-trailer and was pronounced dead at the scene Wednesday evening, according to the Monroe County sheriff‘‍s office.

Siddhartha Verma, 29, was between Carleton-Rockwood Road and Telegraph Road in Ash Township at 7:24 p.m. when his car collided with the truck driven by Victor E. Falcon/Baez, 54, of Boston, the sheriff’‍s office reported.

Upon impact, Verma was thrown from his car, which split into pieces and came to rest in the grass median. The truck caught fire and came to rest along the west shoulder. 

The truck driver, who suffered minor injuries, was taken to Mercy Memorial Hospital, Monroe.
