Early morning police chase ends in Clyde driver’s death

CLYDE, Ohio -- An early morning police chase ended in a driver’s death when the man crashed his car into a tree.

Roderick D. Rohm, 53, of Clyde was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash near Maple Street and Woodland Avenue in Clyde.

Just after 3:20 a.m. today, Clyde police tried to stop the vehicle, which had expired tags. The driver sped off on Woodland Avenue at an estimated speed of 100 miles per hour and tried to turn onto Maple Street when the officer lost sight of it.

The officer, who according to a news release was about to call off the chase, found the car wrapped around a tree.

Clyde police and the Ohio Highway Patrol are investigating the incident.

An autopsy on the driver will be performed by the Lucas County Coroner’s Office.
