Man dies in Monroe Co. barn fire

54-year-old found inside structure in Exeter Township

A man has died in a barn fire in Exeter Township in Monroe County, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office today.

Deputies said the 54-year-old man was found dead inside the barn in the 6000 block of Colf Road about 12:40 a.m. The barn had a studio apartment in the upper section.

The man's 58-year-old girlfriend was able to flee after the fire started. She was taken to University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor for treatment of burns to her hands and feet, deputies said.

Deputies said the Wayne county Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy. The victim's name has not been released.

Responding were the Exeter Township Fire Department, the London-Maybee-Raisinville Fire Department, and the Ash Township Fire Department.

The fire remains under investigation.

Exeter Township is on the Monroe County’s border with Wayne County.
