Putnam County man dies in auto accident
9/3/2014KALIDA, Ohio — A Putnam County man was killed when his pickup truck became lodged under the trailer of a commercial vehicle, troopers at the Lima post of the Ohio HIghway Patrol said.
Shane Baker, 36, of Fremont, Ind., was on State Rt. 115 near Road M in Putnam County’s Union Township about 5:20 a.m. Wednesday and backing his truck and trailer from south to east into a private driveway. Adrian Birkemeier, 80, was northbound on Route 115 in his pickup when he struck the left side of the trailer.
Mr. Birkemeier was extricated from his vehicle by the Kalida Fire Department. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers said he was not wearing a properly adjusted seat belt.
Union Township is about 70 miles southwest of Toledo.
