Police responding to a report of a person shot arrived about 1:50 a.m. and found Miller dead in the 700 block of Locust Street near North Ontario Street, Toledo police said. He was shot at least once.

The death is the 21st homicide in Toledo and the 24th in the metro area this year.

Garry Krohn, 46, said he and his 19-year-old nephew were watching television when his nephew dove on the floor after hearing gunshots.

“I didn’t really know what was going on until he hit the floor,” Mr. Krohn said, noting his nephew really “freaked out.”

“By the time we got out, [the victim] was lying in my driveway by the sidewalk and he had a gun right in front of him,” Mr. Krohn said.

Mr. Krohn said he has lived in the neighborhood for more than two decades and has heard shots from time to time, but had never experienced a shooting death near his home.
